Neo-Con ‘Global Democracy’ Scheme Advancing
Republicans Showing Signs
of Support for New World Order
By Michael Collins Piper

A
number of recent developments at the highest levels of policymaking
in Washington indicate that the push for “global democracy”
— a new way of describing what has generally been known as
the “New World Order” — is very much under way.
What is particularly intriguing is that many grassroots Americans
who have been longtime critics of the concept of a New World Order
are now rallying behind it, largely because a Republican president
is promoting the scheme in the guise of advancing “liberty.”
This gives real meaning to the biblical admonition to be wary of
wolves in sheep’s clothing.
President George W. Bush launched the drive for retooling the planet
in his Jan. 20 inaugural address, which was drafted in consultation
with Israeli cabinet minister Natan Sharansky. Sharansky has been
touted favorably by the media as an “authority” and
“expert” on democracy ever since Sharansky released
a book entitled The Case for Democracy,
a volume that may have the distinction of being the only book Bush
has read since he squeaked by at Yale.
One of the first official actions in favor of the new policy promoting
global revolution came when the president announced that he was
promoting Sharansky’s longtime close personal friend, Elliot
Abrams, from the staff of the National Security Council to the post
of deputy national security advisor. In that position, the president
announced,
Abrams would be in charge of “global democracy strategy.”
Perhaps best known for having been convicted for his part as a State
Department official enmeshed in the now-infamous Iran-contra scandal
during the Reagan administration — a scandal that more appropriately
should have been called the Iran-Israel-contra affair, considering
Israel’s central, though largely hushed-up role in the matter,
Abrams was later pardoned by former President George H. W. Bush.
However, Abrams’s personal and political connections are most
illustrative of where the primary interests of the so-called “democracy
czar” really lie.
Abrams is not only an outspoken top-line figure in the pro-Israel
“neo-conservative” bloc that played the instrumental
role in guiding the United States into the debacle in Iraq, but
he is also the son-in-law of Norman Podhoretz, the self-styled “ex-Trotskyite”
communist who is one of the founding fathers of the neo-conservative
network.
Podhoretz served for many years as editor of Commentary, the magazine
voice of the American Jewish Committee in New York.
HARSH OPPOSITION
Abrams is considered somewhat controversial for having expressed
harsh opposition to intermarriage between Christians and Jews, a
position echoing not only the policies laid forth by the German Third Reich but which also ironically seems
to reflect the thinking of many American Jewish organizations.
Perhaps Abrams’s most auspicious association was his affiliation
with the Project for the New American Century (PNAC), a pressure
group founded by William Kristol, editor of the neo-conservative
Weekly Standard, published by billionaire
Rupert Murdoch, chief of the Fox News propaganda empire. PNAC is
best recalled as having proclaimed, just prior to the 9-11 terrorist
attacks, that a “new Pearl Harbor” was necessary in
order to inflame Americans into supporting U.S. intervention around
the globe.
OVERALL PLAN
In the meantime, as part of the overall plan for promoting the new
global agenda, the president has named another of Abrams’s
neo-conservative allies, John R. Bolton, now serving as under secretary
of state for arms control and international security, as United
States ambassador to the United Nations.
Bolton is not Jewish — contrary to misinformation circulating
on the Internet. However, he is very much a hard-line advocate for
Israel, even having served on the board of advisors of the Jewish
Institute for National Security Affairs (JINSA), which was founded
by Stephen J. Bryen, a former Reagan administration Defense Department
official, who was once investigated by the FBI on charges of espionage
for Israel.
In addition, Bolton was also part of PNAC, making his neo-conservative
bona fides beyond question. For his own part, Bolton brags that
one of his greatest accomplishments, during his previous diplomatic
career, was having played a key role in working to force the United
Nations to drop its longstanding resolution that Zionism was a form
of racism.
Bolton’s appointment comes on the heels of the president’s
nomination of Robert Zoellick, another hard-line supporter of Israel,
as deputy secretary of state under Condoleezza Rice. Washington
insiders view Zoellick as the real power behind “Condi’s”
throne, directing policy.
A longtime member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the New York-based
affiliate of the Royal Institute of International Affairs in London,
which is funded by the
Rothschild banking empire, Zoellick — who formerly served
as U.S. trade representative in the Bush administration —
has also been an advisor to Goldmann Sachs.
Many grassroots Americans
who have
been longtime critics of the concept of
a New World Order are now rallying
behind it, largely because a Republican
president is promoting the scheme in
the guise of advancing “liberty.”
At the State Department, Zoellick will have a valuable ally in Elizabeth
Cheney, a young attorney with previous diplomatic experience, who
just happens to be the daughter of Vice President Dick Cheney. The
president recently named Miss Cheney as deputy assistant secretary
of state in charge of Middle East affairs.
However, because the office of assistant secretary (which ranks
just below the office of secretary of state) is currently vacant,
Miss Cheney will actually be acting assistant secretary, and therefore
effectively running the bureau. Her views reflect those of her father,
who has also been associated with both JINSA and PNAC, which have
assumed massive influence within the national security policy apparatus
in Washington.
The fact that Abrams, Bolton, Zoellick and Miss Cheney are now ensconced
in such primary power positions puts paid to the theory —
put forth by many Republican loyalists — that “the neo-conservatives
are on their way out.” Instead, the neo-conservatives are
very much in control in the second Bush administration, perhaps
more than ever.
Meanwhile, lending their legislative support to the Sharansky-Bush
“democracy” scheme on Capitol Hill are two of the leading
congressional voices for Israel and the neo-conservative network,
Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Joe Lieberman (D-Conn.).
McCain and Lieberman have now introduced a so-called “Advance
Democracy Act,” which, if enacted, will spend a projected
$300 million to push the administration’s policy. Among other
things, the act will create a so-called “Democracy Promotion
Advisory Board” that will “provide outside expertise
to the U.S. government.” It takes very little guesswork to
divine what special interests will have their representatives named
to such a board.
A companion measure to the McCain-Lieberman bill has also been introduced
in the House of Representatives by Reps. Tom Lantos (D-Calif.) and
Frank Wolf (R-Va.).
One of the primary legal brains behind the drafting of the McCain-Lieberman
legislation was Michael Horowitz of the Hudson Research Institute.
A law professor and attorney who is often published in neo-conservative
journals, Horowitz has served as special counsel to the National
Council of Young Israel, an organization that says it was founded
to “combat the wave of assimilation” by Jews who were
eager to become an integral part of the American social fabric.
In addition, Horowitz has also been a major behind-the-scenes figure
in cementing the now-solid political ties between hard-line pro-Israel
lobby groups and the so-called “Christian right” led
by such figures as Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, Tim LaHaye and
others.

Bolton, Elliot Abrams, Robert Zoellick and Elizabeth Cheney
(left to right, above) are part of the revolutionary elite
who run foreign policy in the Bush administration today. They
are promoting the theme of “global democracy,”
which is actually a new name for a very old agenda, that of
the New World Order. However, because this group and their
ideological allies happen to be Republicans and call themselves
“conservatives” (in order to hide their agenda),
many genuine grass-roots patriots have been taken in and now
support the Bush administration’s globalist policies. |
